What Causes Broken Blood Vessels?
Several factors contribute to dilated facial vessels:
• Sun damage that weakens vessel walls
• Natural collagen and elastin loss with aging
• Genetics
• Rosacea
• Temperature extremes
• Alcohol consumption
• Skin trauma
• Long-term topical steroid use
• Hormonal changes
Although they’re often called “broken,” these vessels are not ruptured—they’re simply permanently dilated.
IPL Photofacial: The First-Line Treatment
At Posh Medical, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is typically our first-line treatment for broken blood vessels and facial redness.
IPL delivers broad-spectrum light that targets hemoglobin inside the visible vessels. The light energy converts to heat, causing the vessel walls to collapse and seal shut. Your body then naturally absorbs the treated vessels over the following weeks.
Benefits of IPL include:
• Reduction of visible capillaries
• Improvement in diffuse redness
• More even skin tone
• Treatment of larger areas in one session
• Minimal downtime
Most patients require 2–4 treatments spaced about 3–4 weeks apart for optimal results.
ADVATx® Laser: A Precision Option
For certain patients—especially those with rosacea or more sensitive skin—the ADVATx® Laser may be recommended.
ADVATx® uses a specialized 589nm yellow wavelength specifically absorbed by hemoglobin. Its patented soft pulse technology delivers energy gently and precisely, reducing discomfort and avoiding bruising often associated with older vascular lasers.
During your consultation, we’ll determine whether IPL or ADVATx® is the most effective choice for your skin type and severity.
What to Expect After Treatment
After treatment, you may experience:
• Mild redness
• Temporary darkening of treated vessels
• Slight warmth in the area
These effects typically resolve within a few days. Over the following weeks, treated vessels gradually fade as your body reabsorbs them.
Blood flow continues normally through deeper, healthy vessels.
